Film Club & Greek Feast

On Wednesday in 5ad, we planned a greek feast to have an idea what the ancient greeks ate. We had lots of food to eat, such as olives, pita bread and haloumi. For a dessert Mrs Cracknell made some yoghurt, honey and crushed biscuit and also some turkish delight. We thought it was lovely and had the left overs on friday. Thank you to our teachers for making our day wonderful, it couldn't have been better!!

Last week Miss Humphrey announced that there was a competition to make your own film. All films had to be 3 minutes . You had to make a story board full of your ideas and then present it to Miss Humphrey or Miss Horgan. Ruby, Gracie, Romany and Rosie decided to enter and we chosen to take part. We can't wait to start filming in the easter holidays.

Happy Easter!!

At the Mosque

In year 5 in R.E. we have been learning about Islam. We went on a trip to the Ilford Mosque and we had to take off our shoes as we didn't want to get the carpet dirty. The girls and women had to wear a headscarf to be respectful.

The Imam told us many things about the Muslim religion including fasting (Ramadan) where you eat at dawn and dont eat until the sun goes down. He told us about the messenger Muhammed who believed in Allah (what the Muslims call God).

He also read a chapter of the Qu'ran which was very interesting. After that we got to go upstairs where the women pray and then we were very lucky because we got cokes and crisps at the end.

The whizz whizz bang bang science show.

On the 2nd of Feburary Doctor Mike Watkinson came into class 5AD. He is a scientist who works at Queen Marys University of Biology. He came into our class to show us science on solids, liquids and gases, which our year was learning about. Mike showed us tricks with liquid nitrogen. The whole room fell silent as he stuck his hand into the liqiud nitrogen. He froze flowers and bananas by putting them into the liquid nitrogen, and then smashed them with a hammer. After that his assistant Debs brought him an egg with a frying pan. He made the egg stick to the pan. At the very end he made ice cream using custard and liquid nitrogen. We had a great tim and hope they come again.

Rememberance

This week in 5AD we have been learning about...

Remembrance Sunday. We did a performance in assembly about the people who fort in the war. We have a photo of one of Max Preston's member of the family who was a solider.
Romany brought in a book. It had information of her great great uncle Harry who was a solider in the 1st world war.

In Science this week we have been learning about solids, liquid and gases. We annotated a car with solid, liquid and gases for our homework. We learned that solids are made or lots of little particles that are close together. Liquids are not as far a part and gases are very far a part from each other.

Also, we have reed a book about Varjak Paw. We have written diaries which explains about Varjaks life and all his feelings.
